As New Zealand’s market leader, supplying the widest range of industry-related products, SafeSmart Access demonstrates our commitment to our scaffolding customers with our ongoing Gold Sponsorship of SARNZ.
As with any industry organisation, SARNZ offers a set of benefits to sponsors such as SafeSmart in return for our support. These include being invited to industry meetings throughout the year; advertising within the monthly newsletter; and the opportunity to display our products, meet with members and present to the plenary at the organisation’s annual conference.
While we value these benefits, the SafeSmart team is pleased to go further with our assistance to the industry and its individual scaffolding company members. For example, the theme for this year’s SARNZ conference held in August at the Dunedin Town Hall was “Breakthrough to Success”. So rather than using the Gold Sponsor’s technical presentation speaking slot to promote our products, we engaged a business consultant with a scaffolding background to provide practical business advice that the membership could use.
Paul Seagar, Chartered Accountant and founder of 5th Green is also a former scaffolding business owner. Mr Seagar provided the conference with practical ideas around capturing data that can be used in order to create business intelligence tools to drive increased productivity. He also provided some very valuable advice on the Personal Properties Securities Register.
SafeSmart was also thinking of the spouses and partners of the scaffolding industry attending the conference, by hosting a partners’ high tea in an elegant room within the Dunedin Town Hall overlooking the historic and picturesque St. Paul’s Cathedral. While the women who attended the high tea were partners of business owners from a largely male membership, we are delighted to add that the SARNZ award for Trainee of the Year 2019, announced at the conference was awarded to a young and upcoming woman scaffolder Maggie Myocevich from Industrial Site Services. Maggie is the pride of her employer and an inspiration to her colleagues, and the SafeSmart team were proud, as the sponsor of this award to present Maggie with a $350 voucher to be redeemed on any of SafeSmart’s wide range of scaffolding tools and safety gear.
Scaffolding Apprenticeship Programme
Another industry initiative undertaken by SafeSmart Access is in support of the scaffolding apprenticeship programme launched in 2018 by Skills in partnership with SARNZ. By way of rewarding employers taking on new scaffolding apprentices, SafeSmart Access continues to offer a $200 voucher (for redemption on a subsequent purchase from SafeSmart) when they buy for their apprentice a Leach’s Scaffolders Kit 2 valued at $349 +GST. This offer is valid for each apprentice the employer takes on.
It is interesting to note that our colleagues across the ditch lament that they do not have the benefit of a national organisation charged with providing advocacy, industry representation, and support specifically for the Australian scaffolding and rigging industries. Congratulations and our thanks go to the current and past board members and staff of SARNZ, and current General Manager Jessica Pritchard for all the work done for the benefit of all of us involved in this fantastic industry.
