WHAT DOES THE SCAFFOLDING APPRENTICESHIP INVOLVE?
Skills offers the 2.5 to 3 year scaffolding apprenticeship program that is aimed at teaching all the required skills to enable the apprentice to apply for a Trade Certificate of Competence (previously the Intermediate CoC).
HOW DO I SIGN UP FOR THE SCAFFOLDING APPRENTICESHIP?
Please contact the Skills Organisation at 0508 SKILLS where a Skills Account Manager will be available to guide you through the signing up process. The Skills Account Manager guide you on signing a training agreement, the induction and verification training.
WHO WILL PROVIDE SUPPORT?
Skills, the Industry Training Organisation for the scaffolding, and SARNZ have teamed up to support apprentices through their journey with dedicated Account Managers and Industry Coordinators. Skills collaborates with the industry to ensures training standards align with the latter’s needs.
Skills will orient you to the apprenticeship program through an induction. The induction covers all aspects including how you need to complete assessments, the required paperwork and so on. The induction session is where you can clarify all doubts. Skills will also ensure the apprentice is signed into off-job training provided through an accredited training provider.
Through a short training session, Skills will demonstrate how to verify the apprentice’s work to carry out assessments.
In addition to the above, the Account Managers and Industry Coordinators are also available throughout the apprenticeship. They help the apprentice stay engaged and assist with any training issues which may arise.
WHAT DOES A VERIFIER DO AND HOW DO I BECOME A VERIFIER?
Verifying is a new concept in the scaffolding industry. A nominated onsite supervisor or the Verifier, acknowledges or verifies that the apprentice can do a specific job to an acceptable level. Post this verification, the completed assessment booklet is sent to Skills.
WHEN WILL BLOCK COURSES START?
Apprenticeships start with Skills Week, a one-week block course that includes literacy and numeracy, Site Safe Passport, health and safety, first aid and basic trades calculations.
Trainees will attend the Skills Week block course within the first three months of their training. Specific start dates are decided by the apprentice’s chosen training provider.
WHO ARE THE SCAFFOLDING TRAINING PROVIDERS?
There are three accredited scaffolding training including Tai Poutini Polytechnic, AMS, and Vertical Horizonz.
